Classroom Itinerary

Discover the World of Beekeeping in the Midwest with the Illiana Beekeepers Alliance!

Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey into the world of honey bees and beekeeping? Whether you’re a beginner eager to start your first hive or a seasoned beekeeper looking to refine your skills, the Illiana Beekeepers Alliance Beekeeping School is your gateway to success!

What You’ll Learn:

Beginner Beekeepers:

• Understanding Honeybee Biology: Learn the fascinating roles of the queen, workers, and drones in the hive.

• Beekeeping Basics: Equipment essentials, hive setup, and safety tips.

• Seasonal Hive Management: How to care for your bees throughout the year in the Midwest.

• Pest and Disease Management: An introduction to Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

• Honey Harvesting: Extract, process, and bottle your own honey.


Advanced Beekeepers:

• Queen Rearing Techniques: Cultivate strong queens for resilient colonies.

• Advanced Hive Management: Identifying and Handling supersedures, making splits, and swarm prevention.

• Basic Disease Diagnostics: Strategies to identify and treat hive ailments.

• Interactive Classes: Combine classroom knowledge with hands-on hive inspections.  The hive inspection is individually conducted and scheduled at a later date and required to receive a certificate of completion.

Light snacks, drinks, and lunch will be available 

Adult $45. Includes 1 year membership in IBA

Accompanied Children under 18 $25. Includes a family add on associate membership in IBA

Current IBA members $20. In advance.

All walk ins $55. If seating is available.

Class size is limited to 120 so enroll early.  If the enrollment page allows payment, seats are available.

If it specifically states enrollment is closed, no seating is available and no walk-ins accepted
